The No. 25 Arizona men’s golf team has found the islands of Hawaii to its liking, acclimating well to the temperature and climate difference, en route to a second-place start after the first round of the John Burns Intercollegiate yesterday in Wahiawa.

The Wildcats shot a 273, 13-under-par for the first round of play and stand behind only No. 32 Auburn by a two-stroke margin. No. 89 Long Beach State rounds out the top three.

Redshirt junior Nathan Tyler had the best first round score for the Wildcats, tied for fourth in the tournament with a first round 67. Junior Henry Liaw shot a 68, good enough for a tie for 10th individually, while sophomore Trey Denton put up a 69, tying for 16th.

Long Beach State junior Brett Lederer occupies the top spot with his lowest score this season, a round of 65.

No. 6 Brigham Young holds down fifth and No. 7 Nevada-Las Vegas is 11th.

The Wildcats continue with round two today and finish the Intercollegiate tomorrow.
