Campus Cats: Minnesota native misses friendliness

    Brittany Barten, nutritional sciences

    When are you your happiest?
I’m probably happiest when I am around my family and friends, because we do things together that are enjoyable, especially with my family, because I don’t get to see them very often. I am from Minnesota, so when I am around my family, it is always nice to see them.

How was growing up in Minnesota?
I love Minnesota. I know a lot of people don’t know much about Minnesota, but I think it’s great. I miss the winters there. I love going home for Christmas, playing in the snow and (going) snowboarding. When I go visit in the summer there are many lakes, unlike here in Arizona.

What are the differences between people in Minnesota and Arizona?
In Minnesota, I feel that people are just generally nicer and better drivers. You can walk down the street and whether you know a person or not, they will just smile and say hi. No matter where you are that is just how it is. Everyone is approachable and that is probably what I miss most about Minnesota is the people.

Do you have any plans to move back?
I am not quite sure. I plan on going to physician assistant school after I graduate, so it just depends on where that takes me.

What do you do for fun on the weekends?
On the weekends, I usually hang out with friends and go out to the bars. On Sundays, me and a couple of friends actually sit and watch football all day. I highly enjoy doing that, which is very odd for girls. That is how I grew up and so I love doing that.

So, you grew up watching football. What other traditions does your family have?
We are very big hockey fans. Well, particularly I am. During high school, I went to all the hockey games and still continue to go to the Ice Cats games. I am going to the game on Friday. My roommate is actually on the team and a bunch of us are going to cheer him on.
