Former Arizona forward Jordan Hill signed with the New York Knicks, according to the Associated Press.
The eighth player taken in the draft, Hill’s contract is said to be a two-year, $4.3 million dollar deal. He took part in his first NBA game yesterday, scoring 13 points and grabbing eight boards in an 86-90 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
WR Thomas signs with Jags
Former Arizona receiver Mike Thomas has reached a three-year contract agreement with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, the team website said.
Picked in the 107th overall slot during the fourth round, the DeSoto, Texas native set a new Pacific 10 Conference receptions record with 259 career catches throughout four years as a member of the Wildcat football team.
During his senior year, Thomas was named to the Pac-10 first-team at both his receiver and punt return positions.
Akamine has back surgery
Junior pitcher Sarah Akamine underwent surgery to remove a bone fragment from her lower back Sunday, Arizona Athletics said.
The leading pitcher for the Wildcats a season ago, Akamine struggled through a shoulder injury during the season but still managed to put up a 22-8 record behind a team-low 2.52 ERA.
Lute Olson tribute to be held
Legendary Arizona basketball head coach Lute Olson will be honored during a Saturday, August 8, ceremony at the McKale Memorial Center at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The event is open to the public and free of charge.
