As a student at the University of Arizona, you should never leave for class without your backpack. Some may think that what you pack in your bag is pretty self-explanatory, but there are some things that are extremely crucial to have for class and the day in general.

Here are five things all UA students should always pack in their bags.

1. Laptop and Charger

For most UA students, the most important things to have in their backpacks are their laptop and laptop chargers. Students use their laptops to take notes during class, complete classwork, assignments or even use them for their jobs.

UA senior Willis Felix is studying communication and he said that with his busy schedule, having his laptop is crucial.

“100 percent the most important thing in my backpack is my laptop,” Felix said. “I use it for my classes, multiple jobs and my internship. If I didn’t have it, I’d be completely lost.”

2. Planner

Using a planner as a college student is almost life changing. Writing out assignments and responsibilities for the day, week or month is a great way to stay organized. Having your planner in your backpack makes it easy to simply pull it out, see what you have to work on and stay on track with everything.

Makayla Kaiser, a sophomore studying communication, said that both her planner and laptop are essential to have in her backpack.

“My whole life is in those things, Kaiser said. “I feel I would have to change a lot about my day if I didn’t have them.”

3. Headphones

When walking around the UA campus, it is extremely common to see students with headphones on. Whether it is walking to class or studying somewhere, students are most likely to be wearing their headphones. Students use headphones to listen to music as they work, watch videos or even for assignments.

Lilliana Ahkeah, a political science major, said that having her AirPods when going to class is very important to her. She said she loves music and listening to music helps her mood when walking from class to class.

4. Personal Care Bag

Many students keep a small bag with different personal care items to use throughout the day. These items include chapstick, bandaids, feminine hygiene products, Advil, lotion, hair ties, hand sanitizer and more. Having these items handy in your backpack can save students from feeling uncomfortable during a long day of classes.

Junior and pre-nursing major Maryan Hassan said that being a skin care fanatic, she “cannot live without” having her sunscreen and moisturizer in her backpack.

“I am always wearing sunscreen because my skin is my biggest investment and asset,” Hassan said.

5. Water Bottle

Drinking water on a daily basis is arguably one of the most important things to do to take care of oneself. Specifically UA students who are walking to and from classes or around campus in the Tucson weather, staying hydrated is essential.

Having a water bottle in your backpack will help keep you hydrated throughout the day and having it could make it easy to refill throughout the day as well.
