It’s been over four months since Jedd Fisch was named the head coach of the Arizona football team and the Wildcats seem to be back on track. Team Red, coached by Rob Gronkowski, defeated Team Blue, coached by Tedy Bruschi, by a score of 17-13 in the spring game at Arizona Stadium.

As the quarterback battle has been heating up throughout the start of spring camp, quarterbacks Will Plummer and Gunner Cruz came to play in front of the Wildcat fans for the first time in 518 days.

Plummer completed nine passes for 125 yards and one touchdown, while Cruz was 5-7 with 110 yards while also adding a touchdown pass to his day. Throughout practices, neither player separated themselves from the pack but both players elevated their performance in today’s spring scrimmage.

The tight ends were involved early and were used more than we have seen in a very long time. Stacey Marshall caught a 40-yard touchdown from Plummer and showed his great route running mixed with his size. Veteran Bryce Wolma caught three passes for 41 yards and was the most receiving h e has had since his freshman season in 2017.

Wide receiver Stanley Berryhill III picked up right where he left off throughout spring practice, catching two passes for 59 yards. Last season, Berryhill III showed he can be a reliable deep threat but this year, he’s out to prove he is an overall great wide receiver.

Jamarye Joiner caught two passes for 62 yards to lead the game in receiving yards and showed, once again, he is ready to show up and give it his all in a game-like situation.

Sophomore running back Bam Smith also had a nice day, catching three balls for 15 yards and a touchdown while also gaining another 37 yards on the ground.

Another great improvement we saw today was the kickers hitting long-distance field goals. Lucas Havrisik made a pair of 48-yard field goals while Tyler Loop nailed a 40-yarder.

The Wildcats will kick off its 2021 season on Sept. 4, against BYU in Las Vegas.
