“Asian Sandwich Deli perfect for quick, tasty cuisine”

If you’re looking for a quick trip to the Far East during your lunch break, but want something more authentic than Panda Express, Asian Sandwich Deli, 1710 E. Speedway Blvd., might be the perfect lunchtime stop.

As the name implies, this hole-in-the-wall (the restaurant is roughly the size of a two bedroom apartment and there are only four tables for those wishing to “”dine in””) find specializes in unique, Asian-inspired sandwiches at insanely low prices. They also offer a decent variety of noodle dishes, fried rice and spring rolls, but the sandwiches are definitely the way to go.

All sandwiches are the same size (roughly a large at most any other sandwich shop) and price (a so-low-it’s-silly $4). While the ingredients in each sandwich vary, they are all served on a perfectly-crisp French roll that offers a nice, solid juxtaposition to the wide array of flavors offered in the actual sandwich.

I first tried the Asian Combo Special, which was full of vegetables and were set off by a tangy and unidentifiable dressing. Next, I sampled the Vietnamese ham sandwich, which also came with many of the same vegetables as above and its own dressing. While I basically had no idea what I was eating, both sandwiches were very tasty, and worth more than the $4 charge.

The deli also offers a garden variety of drinks, like authentic bubble teas, soft drinks, Gatorade and green teas. A bevy of carbonated soft drinks, with flavors like peach and berry are also available.

In order to even taste it, you have to follow the instructions to pop the top down, which incidentally is kind of fun. Despite what I could read on the label, I couldn’t taste any carbonation, and it just tasted like peach syrup. But as my dining companion aptly noted, “”It would probably taste really good if you mixed it with vodka.”” Just a thought.

For two sandwiches and two drinks, our total was $13, which would be hard to find at any other deli. The food arrived quickly, tasted great and despite the size of the place, it’s authentically decorated and fun to be in. Asian Sandwich Deli is a must for a quick, and authentically good, lunchtime meal.
