Fans of local alt rock and other underground hardcore music should listen to “”The Block of Rock,”” which devotes special attention to Tucson acts and other unsigned bands.

In every show, economics sophomore Cody O’Neill, aka Redbeard, tries to play local acts gone relatively big, like The Bled and Versus the Mirror.

O’Neill conducts interviews with unsigned groups, most recently with Dead Reckless from Georgia.

He also spins some metal and some “”rock revival.”” His show on Tuesday included a song from the new Thursday album and tracks by From First to Last, The Hellacopters, Atreyu, In Flames, Soilwork, Mat Kearney, Lacuna Coli, Protest the Hero and Say Anything.

This is O’Neill’s fourth semester hosting the well-rounded show, which also boasts a “”new music spotlight”” every week featuring recently-formed bands.

“”The Block of Rock”” airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m. and other student radio shows air around the clock online at kamp.arizona.edu or on channel 20 in the dorms.
