The clock struck 12 late Monday night as department heads presented the Provost’s Office with their White Paper Proposals; Provost Meredith Hay extended the original deadline from 5 p.m. to midnight.
Although UA officials will begin examining the proposals on Tuesday, they will likely not be available to the public until Wednesday or Thursday on the provost’s Web site, according to the Provost’s Office.
Hay and President Robert Shelton could not be reached to comment on the number of proposals submitted or the reason behind the deadline extension, although several members of the UA Faculty Senate have expressed frustration with the short timeline of the proposals.
The proposals are multi-page drafts, mostly from department heads and appointed teams, outlining ways for the university to trim the budget by nearly $20 million, which could most prominently include consolidation of several departments and colleges.
Final proposals will be submitted to the Faculty Senate on Dec. 15.
