UA volleyball player Tiffany Owens was named the Pacific 10 Conference Player of the Week for her play against then-No. 8 Oregon and Oregon State this past weekend in McKale Center, the league office announced Monday.
Owens, a sophomore outside hitter, collected 35 kills and 25 digs over seven setsÿ- a 3-1 win against the Ducks and a 3-0 sweep of the Beavers -ÿto lead the Wildcats to their first Pac-10 weekend sweep since 2006. She hit .400 in the two matches and registered 22 kills against the Beavers, her second highest kill total of the year.
“”Obviously I’m excited for her and our team,”” UA head coach Dave Rubio said in a statement. “”Without the support of her teammates it would be difficult for her to earn this honor.””
Owens leads the UA in kills with 288 and is second in digs with 248.
The sophomore claimed the first weekly award for the UA volleyball team since Kim Glass in 2005. It is the 26th all-time Player of the Week award for the team.
