Zach Braff took off his oversized headphones and told Mandy Moore to come over to him. “”Hey Zach, what are you listening to?”” Mandy asked. “”The Shins,”” Zach replied. “”This song will change your life.”” Zach placed the headphones over Mandy’s ears as the gentle cooing of lead singer James Mercer swept her away. It was over then and there. Now they’re engaged after Zach proposed with a $450,000 ring. You’re in it right now, aren’t you, Arizona Daily Wildcat readers?

    GRIPE OF THE WEEK

Gripe of the week: News leaked this week that the Roman Catholic Church has asked Michael Jackson to put music to the prayers of the late Pope John Paul II. Celebrities, politicians, religious leaders – give me a challenge! Can you not go one week without screwing up so pathetically? At least don’t put two jokes waiting to happen together in one story. It seems so obvious: Michael needs to stay away from the Catholic Church and vice versa. Lindsay Lohan should stay away from Kate Moss. Paris Hilton needs to stay away from Colin Farrell. In fact, Paris needs to stay away from everyone. Although if Paris were ever to get a cold and stay home for a week, I might lose my job.

    Quoteworthy:

“”There’s something so calming and beautiful about Werner Herzog’s voice. I felt completely fine and safe. I climbed out. I got out of the car and I said, ‘Thank you,’ and he was gone.””

    – Joaquin Phoenix, who overturned his car on a canyon road only to be saved by acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog (“”Grizzly Man””).

Can’t get enough of companies trying to sell you their products? I know I can’t. Although with such a horrible batch of Super Bowl commercials, I might not buy Bud Light for a couple weeks. If you need to see them again, or never saw them, Google is helping us all out by hosting most of the ads. http://video.google.com/superbowl.html

I’m hesitant to tell you all about this, but I have recently learned how to be rich: Read Ramit Sethi. His Web log about personal finance for college kids and everyone else is a great everyday read. Check out yesterday’s post about www.facebook.com and make sure to browse through the archives in case you missed a tip on the stock market or blackjack. www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com .

Although I’ve never been a fan of snack “”mixes”” because they include dried grapes, the new Chocolate Peanut Butter Chex Mix was my snack of choice during Super Bowl XL. Packed with peanuts, pretzels, chocolate candies and Chex peanut butter cereal, the mix helped me cope with Seattle’s unfortunate defeat.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ new album, Show Your Bones, is going to blow your mind once it’s released in March/leaked in February. Get a taste of the first single “”Gold Lion”” at www.stereogum.com.

Love Scatter Shot but can’t wait another week? Too bad. GoWild only comes out once per week and we’re not apologizing.
