Women’s tennis to take on No. 1 Stanford in intimidating atmosphere

When No. 42 Arizona travels to California to take on No.1 Stanford and No. 5 California (15-3, 1-0 Pacific 10 Conference), the team will have to look past more than just their opponent’s lofty rankings. Stanford (13-1, 1-0) also uses its extravagant playing facilities to add to the intimidation factor.

Taube Tennis Center on Stanford’s campus is not your normal collegiate tennis complex. The three center courts are surrounded by large grandstands with seating available on all ends of the courts with a seating capacity of 4,500 seats.

But the extra viewers – attendance is usually a few hundred per match – should not be a problem for the Wildcats (8-8, 2-0), junior Camelia Todorova said.

“”Some of the girls like to play in front of a big crowd,”” Todorova said. “”I know I like to play in front of a big crowd, so I think it will be fine.””
