Fowler throws perfect game as softball wins

Though the offense wasn’t nearly as explosive as the night prior, the Arizona softball team easily dispatched the Oregon State Beavers Saturday in a 8-0 victory at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Freshman pitcher Kenzie Fowler threw a perfect game, — the eighth such performance for an Arizona pitcher all-time — while pitching all five innings in front of a crowd of 2,775. Former pitcher Taryne Mowatt pitched the last perfect game in 2006.

Arizona’s top four batters in the order would see the plate once in each of the first three innings. Lead-off hitter Brittany Lastrapes led the team with one home run and four RBIs.

Oregon State was plagued by mistakes, finishing with two errors and miscommunicating on at least two other chances to make pop-out catches.

The series finale will see the first pitch thrown at noon Sunday.
