Arizona’s Johnny Jackson dives into the end zone for a touchdown tackled by number 2 of UTSA on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015.

In their return to Arizona Stadium, the Arizona Wildcats defeated UTSA 42-32 in front of a crowd of 51,111.

But the biggest story of the game was go-to-everything preseason All-American linebacker Scooby Wright III, who was out on the sideline dealing with a reported knee injury from the first quarter on. The former Pac-12 conference defensive player of the year was later shown on Pac-12 Networks walking with a crutch and no longer wearing his uniform. He did not play the remainder of the game.

According to reports, the Wildcats were also without receiver Samajie Grant, linebacker Tellas Jones and defensive tackle Anthony Fotu due to suspension.

The Wildcats started the game quickly. On just the second play of the game, UA redshirt senior safety Anthony Lopez intercepted UTSA quarterback Blake Bogenschutz for a 23-yard touchdown return. In the third quarter, free safety Jamar Allah recovered a fumble caused by linebacker Will Parks for a 22-yard touchdown return.

The play of the game on special teams came from receiver turned cornerback DaVonte’ Neal, who blocked a UTSA field goal. Neal also totaled 11 tackles.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Anu Solomon was 21-35 throwing for 212 yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore running back Nick Wilson ran for 97 yards on 22 attempts, and coughed up a fumble. Receiver Johnny Jackson led the Wildcats on the receiving end with his first career 100-yard receiving game. Jackson had eight catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
