Arizona football scored 36 points in the fourth quarter and completed a last-second Hail Mary touchdown pass to beat California 49-45.

Redshirt senior wide receiver Austin Hill caught a 47-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give Arizona its first 4-0 start under head coach Rich Rodriguez.

Cal lead 28-6 at the half and 31-13 after three quarters. The Wildcats out-gained the Golden Bears 627 yards to 573.

Arizona redshirt freshman quarterback Anu Solomon was 47-for-73 for 520 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He ran for 46 yards on 16 carries. True freshman running back Nick Wilson was held to 33 yards on 11 carries before leaving the game.

Arizona’s streak of having a player rush for at least 100 yards ended after 20 games.

Redshirt sophomore receiver Cayleb Jones secured 13 receptions for 186 yards and had three touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker Scooby Wright III had 18 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Cal sophomore quarterback Jared Goff was 18-for-30 passing and had 380 yards. Eight different Golden Bears caught passes.

Cal missed a 47-yard field goal with :52 left to give Arizona a chance.

After recovering an onside kick, the Wildcats cut the lead down to 45-43 on a 15-yard touchdown reception by Jones. The two-point conversion attempt failed, though.

Arizona cut Cal’s lead to 45-37 after a six-yard touchdown run by fifth-year senior Terris Jones-Grigsby.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 38-30 with 8:09 after a 16-yard touchdown reception by Jones. However, the Golden Bears pushed it back to 15 points with a six-yard rush by Khalf Muhammad.

With about 14:08 left, senior safety Tra’Mayne Bondurant caught an interception off of a deflection. Arizona scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive on a nine-yard reception by redshirt senior wide receiver Austin Hill.

Cal scored a touchdown on a 50-yard run by Muhammad during its 2:40 drive on its next possession.

Arizona settled for a 31-yard field goal by junior kicker Casey Skowron to open the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 28-13 after a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jones on their second drive of the third quarter. Cal responded with a 45-yard field goal on its next drive.

Attendance was 45,595.
