Remember the Alamo Bowl

Although head coach Mike Stoops say the Arizona football team is solely focused on defeating rival Arizona State on Thursday, that doesn’t mean that others aren’t looking ahead to the postseason.

“”We know we’ve got a bowl game in the big picture,”” Stoops said. “”In the little picture we want to beat Arizona State. We don’t want to go on a four game losing streak into a bowl game.””

If the Wildcats defeat ASU and Stanford plays in a BCS game, Arizona will be the team from the Pacific 10 Conference invited to the game according to Valero Alamo Bowl VP of Marketing and Communications Rick Hill.

The Alamo Bowl, held this year on Dec. 29, offered to pay the Pac-10 $3 million to replace the Holiday Bowl — which reportedly offered $2.35 million — as the traditional bowl for the conference’s second place team. The Pac-10’s top-non-BCS program faces off against the third-place team from the Big 12.

Washington is also in the hunt for a bid to San Antonio, Texas, bowl. If Arizona loses and the Huskies wins their game against Washington State, Hill said Washington would be selected.
