The suspect for the robbery that occurred at 1130 N. Mountain Ave. on Thursday afternoon was charged with Armed Robbery after the victim successfully identified him, according to a University of Arizona Police Department media release.
On Friday, Sergeant Filbert Barrera said in the media release that Carlos Gallegos, 21, was arrested for the robbery after UAPD officers were called to the ASUA Bookstore in reference to a shoplifting incident which occurred after the robbery.
Barrera said that the suspect approached the victim mentioning something about wanting to hold the victims phone, when she refused he pulled out a “brandished wooden handled weed removal gardening tool.” The victim then ran away and the police were called.
At 3:59 p.m. on Thursday, a UAlert was sent out that said a robbery had occurred on Mountain Ave. and that the suspect did have a weapon on him.
The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, in his late teens to early 20’s, wearing a gray hoodie sweatshirt and blue jeans with a thin build. After the robbery he was seen walking eastbound on Highland Ave and 1st Ave.
The woman’s property was returned and suspect was charged with Armed Robbery.
