TEMPE, Ariz. — Although this game took place in the Sun Devils home arena, doesn’t mean that there was a shortage of Wildcat fans in the building.

Arizona supporters drove 100 miles from Tucson to Tempe to support Tommy Lloyd’s fourth ranked Wildcats in enemy territory.

The final score of 91-79 doesn’t tell the entire story. The Wildcats were losing 16-3 in the first five minutes of the contest before they flipped the switch. That was thanks to Bennedict Mathurin and Pelle Larsson.

“I’m really proud of them, that’s a gut check win in a tough environment against a rival, and you’re down 14 to one,” Lloyd said. “And, you know, you could just say, it’s not your day, and our guys bounce back. I told them at one one point, we’re gonna win this thing by 20, and, you know, we were right there to do that.”

Both of them were super aggressive on the offensive end of the floor and were finishing with ease on three-point shots and around the rim. Mathurin finished the game with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists on 6-12 shooting, while Larrson had 14 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting from the field.

Five minutes into the second half, Koloko and Terry finish at the basket with big dunks and the loud “U of A” chants begin to fill the arena.

This stretch set the tempo for the remainder of the game. The Wildcats took a 15-point lead and didn’t let their foot off the pedal for the rest of the contest.

Enough good things can’t be said about the difference Dalen Terry makes for this team. This Arizona team is not an elite offensive team and most nights there won’t be a player to score 20 or more points. But it isn’t all about scoring. Every game, Terry is continuing to become more comfortable within Tommy Lloyd’s offense and it is showing. He finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals while being 5-8 from the field.

This win extends Arizona’s winning streak against ASU to four games and five out of the last eight meetings between the two teams.

Arizona shooting was improved from the previous few games. They were 57 percent (34-60) from the field, 37 percent (7-19) from deep and 70 percent (16-23) from the free-throw line.

Kerr Kriisa and Terry turned the ball over a combined seven times. That is a ton to see from Arizona’s primary ball handlers.

Azuolas Tubelis was recently named Pac-12 player of the week and showed again how dominant he can be when 100 percent healthy. He finished the game with 19 points and 11 rebounds for his second straight double-double.

“I tell our guys like listen, you know, pretty soon you’re in the Pac 12 tournament, and if you want to have a chance to win it, you got to play in three consecutive days,” Lloyd said. “So you should be ready to play tomorrow.”

Arizona will head to Pullman, Washington on Thursday to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 P.M. They will finish off the two-game road trip against the Washington Huskies on Saturday afternoon.
