    Raul Grijalva
    Incumbent Democrat

    Illegal immigration: Supports a temporary worker program that would enable illegal immigrants to work in the United States legally. Supports amnesty for illegal immigrants already working in the United States.

    Education: Would increase funding for school capital improvements. Does not support voucher programs, supports early childhood education. Supports affirmative action in public college admissions. Supports federal tax incentives to help families save for college.

    Taxes: Would decrease most income taxes for people below $150,000 yearly income. Would increase alcohol and cigarette taxes.

    Abortions: Abortions should always be legal.

    Employment: Would increase funding for national job-training programs that re-train displaced workers or teach skills needed in today’s job market. Would increase the federal minimum wage. Would include sexual orientation in federal anti-discrimination laws.

    Illegal immigration: Would enact and enforce laws that mandate a functional visa program and adequate identification programs to protect employers from false identification.

    Education: Would allow parents to use vouchers, (equal opportunity scholarships) to send their children to any public school. Would reward teachers with merit pay for working in low-income schools. Supports federal tax incentives to help families save for college.

    Taxes: Would decrease income taxes, capital gains and corporate taxes, increase retiree income tax.

    Abortion: Abortions should be legal when the life of the woman is endangered. Abortions should be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape.

    Employment: Would increase funding for national job-training programs that re-train displaced workers or teach skills needed in today’s job market. Supports the right of workers to strike without fear of being permanently replaced. Would reduce government regulation of the private sector in order to encourage investment and economic expansion.

    Illegal immigration: Supports amnesty for illegal immigrants already working in the United States. Supports a temporary worker program that would enable illegal immigrants to work in the United States legally.

    Education: Support national standards for and testing of public school students. Would allow parents to use vouchers, (equal opportunity scholarships) to send their children to any public school. Supports federal tax incentives to help families save for college.

    Taxes: Would maintain status of income taxes below $75,000 per year, and decrease them above $75,000 per year. Would maintain alcohol and cigarette taxes and eliminate capital gains, inheritance and corporate taxes. Abortion: Abortions should always be legal.

    Employment: Would encourage employers to offer flex-time scheduling, comp-time and unpaid leave for family emergencies. Include sexual orientation in federal anti-discrimination laws.
