Date set for dorm stabbing trial

The trial for Galareka Harrison, 18, a UA student accused of stabbing and killing her roommate last semester, was set Monday for Sept. 9.

The trial is expected to consist of two and a half weeks of deliberation, said David S. Ricker, community relations coordinator for Pima County Superior Court.

“”Sept. 9 is when the real nitty-gritty stuff starts,”” Ricker said.

Witness interviews and jury selection dates will lead up to the trial.

On March 17, a status conference will be held among the judge, prosecutor and state to set dates for the filing of motions and the approval of the jury questionnaire, which will help sort out potential jurors.

Another status conference will be held Aug. 25 to determine the 12 jurors.

Mia Henderson, 18, was stabbed 21 times while and after she was sleeping in her room at Graham-Greenlee Residence Hall on the morning of Sept. 5, according to autopsy reports. She died later that day at University Medical Center.

Harrison is being held at Pima County Jail on $500,000 bond.
