Arizona softball continues to have a shaky start as they try to gain more wins in conference play. This past weekend wasn’t any better than the last as they went 1-2 for the weekend against Oregon State University. The series began with a 4-1 loss in seven innings Friday night.
Friday (4/8)
Arizona’s only run of the game came in the first inning to start the game. Izzy Pacho reached on a fielding error by Oregon State, allowing Jasmine Perezchica to score for the Wildcats.
With no outs in the bottom of the first inning, Oregon State earned 2 runs off of sacrifice flyouts to lead the game 2-1. Then an RBI double by the Beavers earned them another run in the second inning. Their final run came from yet another sacrifice flyout to take the first game 4-1.

Saturday (4/9)
Neither team put up any runs on the board until the midway point of the game. The Wildcats’ only run came from a Sharlize Palacios home run in the top of the fourth inning.
Oregon State then followed up with an RBI single to tie the game in the fifth inning. Shortly after, the Beavers put the game to rest with a 2-run RBI double to take the second game of the series 3-1.
Sunday (4/10)
The Wildcats avoided the sweep with an astounding 9-1 run-rule victory to close out the series. The first run for the Wildcats was scored on a fielding error by Oregon State, allowing Carlie Scupin to score.
Giulia Koutsoyanopulos then RBI sacrifice flew out to the right field, bringing in Bailey Thompson for the score. Two more runs were then scored for the Wildcats as Palacios RBI doubled to center to give Arizona a 4-0 lead early.
During the top of the third inning, Scupin reached on an error by Oregon State, bringing in Amber Toven for the score. The Beavers followed up with their only run of the game from a solo home run from their second baseman, Kiki Escobar.
Palacios didn’t let up as she 2-run homered to give the Wildcats 2 more runs on the board. Thompson then reached on a fielding error by Oregon State to bring in another run. To finish out the game, Allie Skaggs RBI singled to bring in Perezchica for the final score of the night to win the match 9-1.
As Arizona tries to gain some momentum in Pac-12 play, they head back home to take on the University of Oregon in a 3-game series starting Thursday, April 14 in Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium at 5 p.m.
