The Arizona men’s basketball team received some welcome news on the injury front for once on Friday when an MRI on forward Jamelle Horne’s left knee cleared him to play.
Horne underwent the MRI Friday morning after sitting out Thursday’s practice due to swelling. Doctors cleared him to return based on his pain and comfort level.
Horne, a freshman who arrived as a five-star recruit, is averaging 3.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 17 contests this season (four starts).
He has only played in six of Arizona’s nine Pacific 10 Conference contests, averaging 0.3 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.
His role could expand as the Wildcats look to the bench to fill the 34.4 minutes guard Nic Wise had been playing per game before undergoing knee surgery Wednesday that’s expected to keep him out four to six weeks. Horne has struggled on the defensive end during conference play.
