Zona Zoo pass sales ‘on pace’

Students have bought 7,875 Zona Zoo passes as of yesterday afternoon, according to Cassidy Moore, marketing director for Arizona Athletics. That’s a figure that pleases the athletics department and Zona Zoo director David Roost.

About 82 percent of the passes sold have been $95 “”Red”” passes, which grant admission to all UA sporting events. That means 18 percent of the sales have come from $60 “”Blue”” passes that do not include basketball tickets.

The athletics department did not track sales data at exactly this point last year, so it’s impossible to compare sales between the years at this time. Last year, when Zona Zoo sold more than 12,000 passes, basketball tickets cost $10 per game on top of the $60 base pass that could be compared to this year’s “”Blue”” pass.

“”We knew it was somewhat of a risk charging students almost $100 when they’re used to $60,”” Roost said. “”With (82) percent of the people buying the red one, it’s working, and we’re on track to match where we were last year and hopefully break it. We’re really excited.””

Moore expects sales to pick up after Saturday’s football game at Brigham Young, especially if the Wildcats win.

“”We’ve still got a ways to go,”” Moore said. “”It will put them over the edge this weekend with (college football) getting started. We’re right on pace.””
