“B. Bofia out for season, Rheya Neabors injures foot”

Before the season started, the theme of the Arizona women’s basketball teams was twins, after the team signed two sets of identical twins.

That theme has quickly faded away, as center Beatrice Bofia, one identical twin, learned she will miss the entire season after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament Nov. 1 during warmups of the Red-Blue Game.

“”It’s really hard for her,”” UA head coach Joan Bonvicini said. “”For a lot of reasons, she wanted to see if she could play. She wanted to see if she could get through this without surgery. That’s not going to be possible.””

Bonvicini said she expected Bofia to have surgery in a few weeks and apply for a medical redshirt.

She also added that Bofia may yearn for her mother to travel to Tucson.

“”When you’re hurt, you get homesick,”” Bonvicini said. “”She wants her mom, so maybe that will happen. We’re not sure, maybe her mom will come, but either way, she’s going to have a lot of support here. She will have her surgery and then rehab it.””

The team will also be without freshman forward Rheya Neabors, another one of the twins, after she injured her foot during yesterday’s game against Louisiana Tech.

Bonvicini said she did not suffer a break but was put in a protective boot until the diagnosis is revealed.

Other team injuries include guards Jessica Arnold, who was knocked in the chin during practice, and Linda Pace, who has a quad contusion.

“”We’re down players, that’s why this was a big win,”” Bonvicini said after yesterday’s 74-59 victory.
