    Fine Arts Fashion Frenzy

Those in the arts, whether it be fashion, theater, studio art or music, tend to be some of campus’ best dressers. As we close in on the end of semester, I can divulge my secret: The Wildcat often finds their most stylish culprits around the art and music buildings.
On a larger scale, mainstream musicians (i.e. BeyoncǸ, Diddy, Madonna) are the most common type of artists to also try and break into the fashion industry. The style hunters at The Wildcat looked to see if the same was true of students at the UA. No, these talents are not necessarily trying to start designing couture, but they sure do look good.

By the way they are dressed, it would be an easy guess to say that these two hipsters – and friends – are into music. And to answer our stereotypical accusations, it’s true.

Music freshman Zachary Toporek and music sophomore Tim O’Sullivan exude qualities of being knowledgeable about all kinds of tunes.

O’Sullivan’s Cheap Trick T-shirt, a find from Huntington Beach, California, looks artsy and cool and, let’s be honest, initiates all kinds of conversation.

Similarly, Toporek’s T-shirt of Tom Selleck – well what can’t be said about that? On a style note, the shirt is from a specialty T-shirt chain called Bang-On that even Fashion Facts hadn’t heard of.

The guys keep it cool with their opticals too. Toporek’s lenses are a steal from his dad.

“”They’ve been in the family for five years now,”” he said.

And O’Sullivan’s shades are a thrifty find from Walgreens.

Although she doesn’t think music has much of an influence on the way she dresses, microbiology freshman Tiffany Jen has that whole Avril Lavigne aesthetic going on here. (Of course, minus the annoying, wannabe hard ass thing.)

The standout piece of this look, her Nike Dunks, was a thoughtful gift from her boyfriend.

    “”I collect sneakers,”” Jen said.

A choir classmate of Hirvonen’s, this second soprano singer enjoys R&B and hip-hop. Currently, she’s been listening to Gym Class Heroes. It was their recent show at the Rialto that really did her in, she said.

Take microbiology senior Bre Hirvonen. She was caught yesterday afternoon looking casually chic in a grey American Apparel T-shirt – “”I live in it,”” she said – leggings and flats.

It’s “”because I can’t wear heels all day,”” Hirvonen explained.

Just getting out of her choir class, Hirvonen knows how to both sing and accessorize. Her teal crochet hat (crochet is very in for summer) adds both color and an unexpected something to her overall look.

Hirvonen said she gravitates to older sounds of the ’80s like Journey and other “”comfortable”” music.

“”If I’m in a comfortable mood, I’ll wear comfortable clothes and listen to comfortable music,”” she said.
