The Arizona men’s basketball team greatly missed forward Jamelle Horne Monday night as the Wildcats snuck past Lipscomb with less than a second to go. Horne missed the game with what is being called a right mid-foot sprain. He could be seen on the bench wearing a walking boot.
When asked if Horne would be available for Wednesday’s game against North Carolina State, Arizona head coach Sean Miller said there was a chance the junior forward could miss up to six weeks.
“”I’m not sure when he will be back but I know he’s talked about February,”” Miller said. “”We’re going to talk to doctors and Jamelle and then go from there.””
Miller did indicate that he was unsure how serious the injury was and that he was going off of what Horne had told him.
Horne had started all nine games coming into Monday’s game, averaging 11.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
He has not practiced since he originally hurt his foot against San Diego State on Dec. 12, though he re-enter that game to play a total of 32 minutes.
Not having Horne’s athleticism and rebounding showed, as the Lipscomb’s Adnan Hodzic dominated in the paint with 34 points and 13 rebounds.
“”It hurt us greatly to play without Jamelle. He’s like (senior) Nic (Wise), the heart and soul of our team,”” said UA guard Momo Jones. “”Without him we lacked some things, but as a team we have to pull together.””
Losing Horne comes less than a week after Miller announced that freshman Kevin Parrom could be back to play against BYU on Dec. 28. Parrom has yet to play this season after suffering a stress fracture in his left foot.
Sophomore Brendon Lavender came back to play 18 minutes Monday after missing two games with a bruised thigh.
“”We just got to lace them up and see where it goes; we don’t have a lot room for error, especially with a player hurt,”” Miller said. “”It’s just kind of where we’re at right now.””
