The Pac-12 and Big Ten are expected to announce the cancellation of their college football seasons on Tuesday, Aug. 11, according to a report from sportscaster Dan Patrick.
“According to Dan’s source, 12 of the 14 Presidents from the Big 10 have voted against having a Fall College Football season,” “The Dan Patrick Show” said in a tweet. “Iowa and Nebraska were the two that have been pushing to play.”
Patrick also mentioned on his show that the Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 are reportedly still on the fence, while the Southeastern Conference is exploring ways to “get teams to join them for a season”.
“The SEC is trying to get a delay to have teams join them,” Patrick said. “The SEC is looking at exclusive TV contracts.”
It appears that the official announcement will come on Tuesday barring any last-minute changes that the Pac-12 and Big Ten will be canceling their respective college football seasons this year. Following Old Dominion’s announcement that they are expected to be canceling their college football season this year, there have been 14 Football Bowl Subdivision schools out of 130 that won’t play this fall and that number is expected to increase Tuesday with the reports of the Pac-12 and Ben Ten canceling their football seasons in the fall.
Many college football players have spoken out over the last few days on Twitter expressing their desire to play football this year, including Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. The University of Michigan’s head football coach Jim Harbaugh also released a statement advocating for college football to be played this season.
