Best and worst of summer ’06 (in case you missed it)

With a few exceptions, this summer wasn’t incredibly groundbreaking in terms of the tunes the music world cranked out for us. Perhaps we’ll have to wait until the leaves change, (or, in our case, until the grass dies) for the next big band or landmark album to come out.

So if you’ve been living under a rock this summer, this best-of and worst-of list is for you.

    Most unimpressive debut album

Pharrell Williams – In My Mind

Funny how the best track, “”Number One,”” is a collaboration with Kanye West. Pharrell just can’t seem to get the job done on his own.

    Best ex-Mouseketeer single

Christina Aguilera – “”Ain’t No Other Man””

The girl’s still got it and although her latest album, Back to Basics, may not be the best, this song shows off her mighty vocals.

    Most obnoxious ex-Mouseketeer single

    Justin Timberlake – “”Sexyback””

The newest party song from J.T. is his most annoying yet, and drunk girls will soon be singing it the world over.

    Best explicit album

    Peaches – Impeach My Bush

The electronic music of Peaches came back this summer and the energetic shouty vocals were just icing on the cake for this album.

Best album by a band over 40

    Sonic Youth – Rather Ripped

They might be joining the AARP, soon but their music is still damn good, and at some points even sounds along the same lines as Death Cab for Cutie.

    Just don’t buy this album

    Paris Hilton – Paris

If you were drunk in a Wal-Mart and felt like spending $10 on this album, I still wouldn’t forgive you.
