“Men’s throwers, hurdlers have strong showing in San Diego”

The throwers and long jumpers of the Arizona men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Triton Invitational at UC-San Diego and finished with positive results.

“”I thought that they competed very well,”” said UA head coach Fred Harvey. “”We did some things that we tried to achieve and we are building confidence.””

In the men’s triple jump, Arizona placed three athletes in the top five as Daniel Marshall placed first, with Luis Rivera-Morales placing third and Michael Stefanos taking fifth.

Rivera-Morales and Marshall also placed in the top 10 in the long jump, placing fourth and seventh, respectively.

The Wildcats also placed three athletes in the top 10 in the shot put as Zack Lloyd, Shawn Best and Jarred Sola placed second, fourth and eighth, respectively.

“”Zack Lloyd is very consistently right now and that’s big,”” Harvey said.

Even though it didn’t bring home any hardware, Harvey was pleased with the way that the women’s team competed.

“”The biggest thing that happened was Nicole Lloyd setting a new personal record in the shot put,”” Harvey said. “”That was huge for us and it will give us a lot of confidence going forward.””

Lloyd placed fifth in the shot put, while Megan Howard placed ninth.

In all, Harvey was pleased with the meet as the track team prepares for a tri-meet with ASU and NAU on Saturday.

“”The ladies’ side is going to be a tough haul, but we gotta keep the momentum we have going,”” Harvey said.
