To spare you the potentially wasted minutes and near-certain embarrassment of acquiring crappy music, let’s put on our driving goggles, take a ride down the information superhighway and listen to some free music. Here’s what you should know about this week’s free song from iTunes:
“You’re a Fool (feat. G. Love)”
Cisco Adler
Adler has made a name for himself on the basis of his light, summery pop songs, and this latest offering is no different. Utilizing the bland and vaguely reggae-esque guitar rhythms we associate with summer parties and stereotypical frat dudes, the instrumentation is uninspired but still bearable. Unfortunately, it steadily becomes buried beneath the weight of the vocals and various electronic effects, instead of maintaining its simple island vibe. The lyrics switch back and forth between almost-philosophical admonitions to appreciate the important things in life and typical lovelorn laments. The rapping interlude three-quarters of the way through does break up the flow of the song which had been approaching monotony, partly because Adler’s vocal style is highly reminiscent of Maroon 5 and doesn’t suit this kind of three-note melody as well as the song needs it to.
Bottom line: If the idea of a reggae song as interpreted by Maroon 5 sounds appealing, go for it.
