Police seek suspects in local man’s shooting

Palestine police are seeking suspects in the shooting of a 22-year-old man that occurred early Thursday morning at the victim’s residence on North Jackson Street.

Officers from the Palestine Police Department were dispatched to Palestine Regional Medical Center Thursday morning concerning a gunshot victim who had arrived at the hospital by private vehicle.

The man, identified as Gilbert Estrada, 22, of Palestine, told police that he was at his home in the 600 block of North Jackson Street sometime after 2:30 a.m. when there was a knock at the back door.

Estrada told police he went to the door where he encountered two black males who appeared to be juveniles and one of them displayed a handgun. The suspects tried to force their way into the residence but Estrada told police he was able to close the door.

The suspect(s) then fired two gunshots that passed through the back door striking Estrada in the back and in the back of the head.

Estrada was treated at PRMC and released as his wounds were not life threatening.

The suspects were described as two black males, possibly juveniles (age 15 to 16 years old), with thin build and short hair. The gunman reportedly had a purple bandana over his face.
