Death penalty off table as UA slaying trial nears

The trial date of Sept. 9 is nearing for Galareka Harrison, the former UA freshman accused of stabbing her 18-year-old roommate, Mia Henderson, to death.

Harrison is charged with first-degree murder, forgery and identity theft. Both lawyers have stated publicly that no plea deals are on the table, and the prosecution will not seek the death penalty.

After initially claiming that a man had attacked the two women, Harrison confessed to killing Henderson last September, said the University of Arizona Police Department.

Harrison has pleaded “”not guilty”” to all of the charges.

The questionnaire portion of the jury selection process began Aug. 20, as the questionnaires were given to 150 prospective jurors in Pima County, according to Pima County Superior Court records.
