An unknown person tried to steal a motorcycle parked in a lot at 1334 E. Helen St. sometime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 6, reports stated.
A student told police when he returned to his motorcycle, its ignition had been scratched and punched.
The student successfully started the motorcycle despite the damage, but he said he would still need to replace the ignition and lock.
Police have no suspects and no witnesses.
An anonymous caller reported that three women poured paint on two lion statues in front of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, 1509 E. Second St., at 12:10 a.m. Nov. 5, reports stated.
The caller told police that after they poured the paint, the females walked to Chi Omega sorority house, 1420 E. First St., and drove away in a silver Saab convertible. The caller provided police with the vehicle’s license plate number.
When police checked the lion statues, they found red and green paint had been poured on one, and black paint had been poured on the other.
An officer found a bottle of black paint at the scene. Police later found a bottle of red paint near a dumpster behind Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority house, 1435 E. Second St.
Police found the owner of the Saab convertible after a records check revealed the owner was a member of Chi Omega.
When an officer spoke with the owner, she said that she had gotten off work at 10:30 p.m. and had gone to pick up a friend from work at 11:30 p.m.
She said they had gone out after she picked up her friend, and they did not return to campus until 2:10 a.m.
The student said she did not know why someone would report her as being involved in the incident.
A student was cited and released for marijuana possession in Hopi Residence Hall, 1440 E. Fourth St., at 11:27 p.m. Nov. 5, reports stated.
A resident assistant reported smelling marijuana coming from a room, and when an officer arrived and knocked on the room’s door, one of the room’s residents let him in.
A woman was sitting at a desk in the room, and the student who had opened the door consented to a search of the room and immediately went to his bed and sat down.
The officer found a bag containing 2.1 grams of marijuana hidden in the bed covers where the student had sat down, and the student agreed to answer questions.
He told police that he did not smoke marijuana on campus and said he buys his marijuana from a heavyset, older man who goes by the name of New York.
The student said that New York parks his dark-colored Cadillac in a parking lot at Circle K, 1610 E. Sixth St., at several different times throughout the night, reports stated.
The woman in the room told police that she did not smoke any marijuana and that she was not with the man when he smoked the drug.
Both were referred to the Dean of Students Office.
A student ran from a police officer and into Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house, 1801 E. First St., at 2:14 a.m. Nov. 3, reports stated.
The officer was driving on East First Street when he saw a male student holding a beer can. The student tried to hide the can, and when the officer asked him to come to the police car, the student ran inside the fraternity.
The student came out after the officer asked a member of the fraternity to bring out the student.
Initially, the man told the officer that he was not drinking and that he ran from the car because he was scared.
Later, however, he admitted to drinking three or four beers. The man’s speech was slurred, he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and he was swaying as he stood.
The officer had to have the man sit down while they talked because he was swaying.
The man was cited for underage drinking and possession.
A $250 silver and green mountain bike was stolen from a bike rack near the James E. Rogers College of Law building, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd., sometime between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3, reports stated.
The bike’s owner said he had locked the bike through its frame with a cable lock before he left it at the rack.
The owner did not know the bike’s serial number, and the bike was not registered with Parking and Transportation Services. The owner told police the bike had black saddlebags attached to it.
Police have no suspects and no witnesses.
