The Arizona Wildcats track and field team is competing in the 55th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. today and tomorrow.
According to head coach Fred Harvey, this is the oldest and largest invitational in the country. University track and field teams will be joined by junior colleges, high schools, and professional athletes in competition.
Harvey said this meet marks the start of championship season, where performances must be at a high level. Luckily, the team hasn’t suffered any significant injuries that would impair performance at the meet.
“We want to focus a lot on the individual events and see how we can compete against the top competition in the country. For those on our team that already put out quality marks, what I’m looking for each week is for them to come out and do the same thing,” Harvey said. “That’s kind of the model of our program. In this competition, we’re looking to be the best we can be.”
