Two Arizona gymnasts were named to the 2007 Pac-10 All-Conference team yesterday.
Junior Karin Wurm qualified to the team as an all-around competitor, while senior Jamie Holton qualified on beam and floor.
Wurm finished sixth in the all-around at the Pacific 10 Conference Championships in Tempe on Saturday and earned second place on the uneven bars. Holton earned a 9.875 on floor and 9.850 on beam to finish fifth and eighth, respectively.
The All-Conference team includes the top six all-around gymnasts and the top three gymnasts in each of the individual events who were not all-around selections.
Team selection is based on the average of a gymnast’s regional qualifying score and Pac-10 Championship score.
Holton was one of only two gymnasts to earn all-conference honors in more than one event; the other was Stanford’s Carly Janiga, who was also named Freshman of the Year.
The other honored all-arounders were ASU’s Nicole Harris, OSU’s Jami Lanz and Tasha Smith, and UCLA’s Anna Li and Tasha Schwikert.
Neither Holton nor Wurm has earned all-conference honors before. The last Arizona gymnast named to the team was Monica Bisordi, who qualified for all-around honors as a senior in 2005.
