On Sunday, Oct. 25, four-star shooting guard from Brewster Academy, Shane Dezonie, officially committed to the Wildcats according to his social media.

“This is such a dream come true for me because Arizona has always been my dream school,” Dezonie told Sports Illustrated. “I always watched them growing up and always been a fan.”

Dezonie is the second recruit for Arizona men’s basketball head coach Sean Miller in the 2021 class along with fellow guard K.J Simpson who committed to the program in August.

Dezonie chose Arizona over ASU, Clemson and Cincinnati. According to 247Sports, he is ranked as the No. 20 shooting guard in the country and No. 86 player overall. It is still early for some members of the 2021 recruiting to decide but the Wildcats are still in the running for five-star Jaden Hardy and four-star Shane Nowell who are two more versatile players in the backcourt.

Dezonie is a talented scorer, finisher on fast breaks and is able to guard multiple positions on defense with his 6-foot-4 frame. While still being a raw player on offense, Miller and assistant coach Jason Terry can help bring his game to the next level. He is a perfect fit for coach Miller’s system as he has mentioned that the team will run lineups with three guards on the court. Assuming all five Wildcat recruits from 2020 stay this season, the core will be very deep and talented at the wing/guard position.

“Coach told me that he feels like I can really develop in their system as a big guard bringing that east coast toughness to the west coast,” Dezonie told Sports Illustrated. “I just feel like they see things in me that other schools hadn’t been seeing and their vision for me was what sold me in the end.”

Some were surprised by Dezonie’s announcement of continuing his basketball career in Tucson after Arizona was served nine allegations, five of them being on the first tier of allegations, related to the allegations against the school in 2017.
