April 27, 2022
The Arizona Men’s baseball team was in Las Cruces Tuesday and had another huge offensive day against New Mexico State. Here are four key stats from the victory:
Four hits for Garen Caulfield
Garen Caulfield came to play Tuesday night in Las Cruces. He set career-highs with four hits and four RBIs in the game, including a two-run homer to left center field, his first of the year. The freshman second baseman is batting .274 so far on the season.
Seven runs scored in the ninth
Arizona entered the ninth leading 8-5 and looking for some insurance runs. Daniel Susac walked to lead off the inning followed by a Chase Davis single. Splaine and Caulfield each followed with RBI singles of their own, and Turley made the score 11-5 with an RBI double down the left field line. Casagrande was then hit by a pitch and Grant and McClaughry struck out, setting the stage for Tanner O’Tremba at the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. On a one-ball count, O’Tremba lifted the pitch out over the left field wall for a Grand Slam, giving the Wildcats a comfortable 15-5 lead.
