The organization also offers classes, workshops and performances to all who would like to learn more about the dance world.
“ZUZI! provides a safe and nurturing environment for the Tucson community, for anyone really, who wish to expand and explore their creative boundaries in movement without competitive judgment,” Nanette Robinson, ZUZI!’s cofounder and director of arts, said in an email. “Dance saved my life! I have heard that from so many. Improving their physical, emotional and spiritual health.”
A variety of choreographers and dancers around Arizona, specifically Tucson, have created performances to showcase all different types of dance. From beginners to experienced and skilled dancers, the ZUZI! Dance organization is home to all types of artists with different dancing abilities.
For $10 per ticket, this Friday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m., UA students and Tucson residents can attend ZUZI! Dance’s spring collection showcase, titled “No Frills Dance Happenin’,” located at ZUZI! Theater at the Historic Y at 738 N. Fifth Ave.
“No Frills Dance Happenin'” is an event that presents emerging dance performers who can be seen making new and creative variations of dance. Along with the new young performers, the event also showcases the works of choreographers from different dance organizations such as Arts for All, Dancing in the Streets and Leaps For Lives Dance Company.

The event will feature dances that include modern and contemporary dance as well as aerial trapeze. “No Frills Dance Happenin'” has been part of ZUZI! Dance for 18 years, which gives light to local dancers and choreographers. The show displays a variety of dances for everyone to enjoy.
“I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to experience movement and dance,” Robinson said. “ZUZI! promotes healthfulness in our community by opening its doors to invite joyful movement to a multi-generational and multi-abled community of movers. We strive to overcome societal prejudice that to be a dancer one must fit a certain somatic stereotype or fall within a certain age range. “
While the event mainly focuses on the works of emerging young adult performers and choreographers, the event will also feature excerpts from “Frida Kahlo: Blood and Gold”, choreographed by Robinson, and live music preformed by Pablo Peregrina, Sally Withers and Paul Docker. The event is a live music performance meant to commemorate the life and influence of Frida Kahlo.
In addition to the event Friday night, on May 26 the premiere of the entirety of the show “Frida Kahlo: Blood and Gold” will be performed at the Tucson Botanical Gardens.
Described as a relaxing and entertaining environment, “No Frills Happenin'” can be a great Friday-night show for anyone to attend.
