The continuation of Conner Olsen’s winning streak in men’s tennis came to an end at the Aztec Fall Invitational.
Four of Arizona men’s tennis players traveled to San Diego, Calif. this weekend to compete in the invitational on the home courts of San Diego State University. The Wildcats were fighting for a championship title in the Aztec Bracket, State Bracket and Warrior Bracket. Two out of the four Wildcats made it to championship rounds.
UA freshman Nick Lagaev made it to the singles championship for the Aztec bracket and Olsen made it to the championship for the Warrior bracket. Unfortunately, they both lost in the final after having had impressive wins in the first rounds, quarterfinals and semifinals.

Olsen’s loss in the championship was also a loss to his winning streak. Going into the championship, Olsen was 10-0 in the 2019 season and fans were hopeful to see the duration of Olsen’s streak in his eleventh match. However, the University of San Diego put up too strong a fight beating Olsen 6-2, 3-6 and 6-1.
In fact, USD seemed to be on their A-game throughout the entire tournament. USD swept all three invitational titles and two were done by freshmen, Marvin Schaber and Sacchitt Sharrma, competing in their second collegiate tournament. This new talent is something the Wildcats will be looking out for going forward; however, the UA held their own at this tournament with their new superstars, as well having only competed with two sophomores and two freshmen.
In regards to going forward, the UA has more opportunities to sweep away championship titles this fall season in this week’s ITA All-American tournament taking place in Tulsa, Okla. The Wildcats will be gripping it and ripping it all week until October 13. They will only be getting a small break with the ITA regionals coming up.
