Arizona State football players will be wearing newly designed football jerseys come their first game against Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The university’s bookstore received its first shipment of the new uniforms within the last week, said bookstore program manager Paul Strauss.
Featuring a maroon and gold v-neck collar, the Nike-brand jerseys underwent minimal design changes, including some added piping and new dry weaves, Strauss said. The uniforms are made from a combination of polyester and mesh, according to the ASU athletics online store.
The jerseys – which Nike and ASU redesigned over the course of a year – will keep the traditional maroon and white, home and away colors, Strauss said.
Although she did not know the specifics, Nike sales representative Linsley Clark said the new look could have been pushed by ASU to “”freshen things up”” or to keep up with a Pacific 10 Conference trend.
As with most college athletic-wear, the 2009 jerseys come in both a replica and authentic versions. The authentic jerseys have sewn on numbers while the replicas have screen-printed digits.
