Despite having spent less than a season on the Arizona women’s golf team, freshman Adriana Zwanck is already receiving national accolades.
Wednesday she was chosen as Golf World’s female college player of the week, after her outstanding first-place performance at the Ping/ASU Invitational. She shot a career-best 68 (-4) in the third round to clinch the individual title against a field that included five teams in the top 10.
“”I’ve said from day one that Adri reminds me so much of Lorena (Ochoa) in terms of attitude and how she treats people,”” said head coach Greg Allen in a press release. “”Now that she is starting to play like Lorena, it’s just an added bonus.””
Her performance at the Mountain View Intercollegiate the week before, which would become her first individual tournament victory, landed Zwanck an honorable mention as Golf World’s player of the week for that stretch. Her final sore of 213 (-3) was only one stroke away from the lowest score a Wildcat has carded so far this year, a mark she then surpassed in Tempe at the Ping/ASU Invitational.
Zwanck currently leads the Wildcats in stroke average, with a 73.86, and is tied with freshman Amanda Wilson for the most rounds under par this season, each with six.
