    Catching up with Garland Judkins

Arizona guard Garland Judkins talked to the media after a Tucson Summer Pro League game on Sunday, June 28. Playing with former Wildcat Hassan Adams and recent No. 8 draft pick Jordan Hill, Judkins talked about how playing in the summer league has helped him to remain in shape and improve his basketball skill set.

On what the summer pro league does for staying in basketball shape:

Garland Judkins: It keeps us in game shape. We haven’t been able to do very much (as a team) with the majority of our players being out, being home on vacation.

On what it does for him personally:

Judkins: It let’s you get off some steam. Everybody loves to play basketball and whenever we come out here we look to have a good time. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a game situation.

On playing with Hassan Adams and other former UA players:

Judkins: A lot of these guys are my good friends, and I’ve spent a lot of time we these guys and they’ve been teaching me a lot about the game of basketball and just being on the court with them is an honor.

What does playing with older guys do for your game?

Judkins: Experience is probably the best weapon at this day in age. These guys have been playing for almost twenty years so, you know, you can’t beat that. You can’t beat experience at any time and if you learn from these guys, it’s priceless.

On preparing for the upcoming season:

Judkins: As of right now, we’re just really doing our individual workouts. We haven’t been able to get run in so we’ve just been playing on the weekend. Some of my teammates have been here this weekend. A couple of them are tired; Fogg and Jamelle are at home. They’re a little tired, a little beat up from yesterday’s game. Other than that, it’s priceless to come out here and get some run in.

Has head coach Sean Miller had a chance to coach you since he arrived?

Judkins: Not in a practice situation but he has coached us and fine tuned some things as much as he could when we were going through our individuals during school, because that was the last time they were really able to coach us, watch us and evaluate us.

Are you excited for this upcoming season?

Judkins: You have no idea, no idea.
