There’s no need to take a trip to Broadway with such a fantastic theater program right here at the UA. The Arizona Repertory Theatre offers superb acting complimented by outstanding stage props, lighting and engaging sound effects, all presented by UA students and faculty.
The Arizona Repertory Theatre plans to showcase six different productions during the 2016-2017 year. These productions include “Epic Proportions,” “Hands on a Hardbody,” “Born Yesterday,” “Proof,” “Twelfth Night” and “EVITA”.
Each show, is scheduled to premiere at different times throughout the year, and will feature actors and actresses from the Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Acting and Musical Theatre.
The year kicks off with the show “Epic Proportions,” beginning Sept. 18 and running through Oct. 9. The ART describes the show as a comedy about two brothers, Benny and Phil, who travel through the Arizona desert with the desire to be cast in a biblical film called “Exeunt Omnes.”
The show “Hands on a Hardbody”, scheduled to run after “Epic Proportions,” will premiere Oct. 19 and run through Nov. 6. The ART states that this musical will have different genres of music, all performed in a beautiful, artistic style. The plot of this musical follows the story of the 1997 documentary called “Hands on a Hardbody” written by S.R. Bindler.

The last show premiering in the 2016 semester, “Born Yesterday,” will start Nov. 9 and run until Dec. 4. The ART depicts this show as a “a delectably witty, screwball comedy” about a junk dealer in Washington D.C. that tries to corrupt his girlfriend to help him with his business.
After the 2016 season of amazing productions, “Proof” will be the first show to start the ART’s 2017 season. The theater describes this play as a drama about a woman who fears she will gain the mental illness of her recently passed father. The play will run from Feb. 8 through Feb. 26 of 2017.
The “Twelfth Night” will kick-off after “Proof” from March 5 to April 2, 2017. Written by William Shakespeare, this comedic play will have you laughing and intrigued by the twisted plot centered around a unique love story.

“EVITA” will conclude the 2016-2017 school year of the ART’s productions. The play tells the story of Eva Perón, a poor Argentinian woman who became the first lady of the country. Packed with enchanting songs and an empowering message, the true story of Eva Perón has captured audiences all over the world since its Broadway premiere in the 1970s. This musical will run from April 9 to April 30, 2017.
