Arizona softball advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament by winning its home regional over the weekend.
The Wildcats will now travel to Baton Rouge, La. this weekend to play LSU with a spot in the Women’s College World series on the line.
The two teams faced each other earlier this season in the Mary Nutter Classic, when LSU defeated Arizona 4-3.
Game one of the best-of-three Super Regional begins 7 p.m. Saturday at LSU’s Tiger Park. Game two is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m., and the if-necessary game three would take place at 7 p.m. Sunday.
After failing to close out Minnesota earlier in the day Sunday, the teams took the field again in an extra-inning, winner-take-all regional outing at Hillenbrand Stadium in Tucson. Arizona led 4-2 needing just one final out the seventh before Minnesota scored four runs to lead 6-4 heading into the bottom of the would-be final frame.
The Wildcats tacked on two to stay alive, then scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to punch their ticket to Baton Rouge.
