Congressional District 8 special Republican primary ends at 7 p.m.

Polls for the Republican primary election in Congressional District 8 close at 7 p.m.

The winner will compete against Democrat Ron Barber, who worked for former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Charlie Manolakis, a Green Party candidate.

The four candidates seeking the Republican nomination include Dave Sitton, a sportscaster and the Arizona Cancer Center’s marketing director; Martha McSally, a retired Air force pilot; Jesse Kelly, a construction manager and Frank Antenori, a retired state senator from Vail, Ariz.

Kelly lost the 2010 congressional election to Giffords by 4,000 votes.

The general election will be on June 12 and the winner will complete Giffords’ term, which expires in January 2013.
