The Arizona women’s tennis team will compete in its last event of the fall this weekend when they travel to Los Angeles to compete in the California State University-Northridge Invitational.
“”It’s our last tournament of the fall, and obviously we want the girls to end it on a good note,”” assistant coach Ryan Stotland said.
Junior Jane Huh, and sophomores Natasha Marks and Debora Castany will represent the Wildcats in matches this weekend.
Marks, who is No. 29 in preseason rankings, hopes to continue to make a strong push towards the spring season after enjoying success in fall tournaments, including making it to the semi-finals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals last month.
The tournament comes one week after the Southwest College Invite, where Arizona experienced mixed results. Head coach Vicky Maes will look for her players to work on “”mentally competing.””
Fortunately, in fall season matches, improvement is stressed highly by both Arizona coaches.
Stotland believes he has seen growth in the team since September and hopes that the team can continue to improve before the regular season rolls around in January.
“”We feel like we’ve seem improvement out of the team this fall,”” Stotland said, “”and we hope that this weekend will give some of the girls confidence before we go into team play in the spring.””
Matches at the Invitational will begin today and continue throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday.
