Arizona gymnastics put up a well-fought battle against in-state rival ASU, but fell 196.725 to 195.025 on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz. 

The Wildcats competed in all 24 routines during the meet, which included the four GymCats, Christina Berg, Maddi Leydin, Courtney Cowles and Adra Parks, that were suspended for the meet against Oregon State last weekend. 

The GymCats opened strong on the uneven bars, but came up short to the Sun Devils at the end of the first rotation, 49.125 to 49.000. Junior Haylie Hendrickson hit a solid routine and stuck her dismount earning her a solid 9.800 followed by Leydin earning a 9.800. Junior Danielle Spencer soared over the uneven bars during her geinger giving her a high of 9.825, followed by sophomore anchor Christina Berg with another 9.800.

Leydin started the second rotation on vault performing a solid Yurchenko full earning her a 9.725. Lauryn Mattson launched off the vault earning a high of 9.825. Parks made her debut on vault for the first time this season earning a season high of 9.750, followed by Madison Cindric with a 9.850. Arizona still trailed behind the Wildcats after the second rotation, but moved to floor with hopes of passing the Sun Devils. 

Floor consisted of highs and lows, but Cindric earned a 9.850 and Mattson earned a 9.825 to help the GymCats score, but still were unable to get ahead of ASU who held the lead 147.325 to 146.850. 

The GymCats closed on the balance beam with inconsistent scores during the rotation. Senior Kennady Schneider opened the final rotation earning a 9.825, but the Arizona slowly fell apart leaving them with low scores. Senior GymCat Victoria Ortiz was able to help out the Wildcats by earning a season high of a 9.800. 

Arizona put up a battle but the Sun Devils were able to take the meet.
