Criminal charges against the former University of Arizona Dean of Pharmacy, Jessie Lyle Bootman, were dropped Oct, 4. According to the released indictment, Bootman faced potential charges of sexual assault, sexual abuse and aggravated assault.
Bootman remains on paid leave, from the university, after being removed from his position as dean and has been banned from campus.
“It was felt that his presence on campus would be disruptive to normal conduct to university business, so we put him on administrative leave. It’s not puntative or disciplinary,” said Chris Sigurdson, vice president of communication at the UA.

The charges against Bootman were dropped when information was discovered through a civil lawsuit, filed by the accuser, that changed the grounds of the relationship between them. This was according to the Arizona Daily Star.
Around Oct. 2, 2015, Bootman allegedly invited the woman, an unidentified acquaintance, into a rented home after running into her at a restaurant. She allegedly took a drink offered from him and blacked out, only to wake up with injuries, former Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told the Arizona Daily Star.
Since the allegations made against Bootman allegedly occurred off-campus, and after business hours, Sigurdson said that the UA is not related to the case. He claimed Bootman’s former employment was the only connecting factor.
Rick G. Schnellmann was appointed as the new dean of the College of Pharmacy in 2016.
