    Man and machine?

    American engineer Ray Kurzweil predicts that by 2029, machines will be able to possess human-level intelligence, BBC News reported Saturday. Kurzweil also believes human brains will eventually be implanted with tiny robots to boost intelligence and health.

    The price of feeling good

    A recent U.S. government count of fatalities showed that from 1995 to 2007 at least 82 youths died from a “”choking game””; this game consisted of wrapping a leash or similar object around the neck to momentarily cut off blood flow and produce a feeling of euphoria.

    A big problem

    A report in last week’s issue of The Lancet medical journal states that greater levels of obesity – as indicated by body-mass index – correspond to a higher risk of developing many types of cancer.
