Arizona meets ASU at Arizona Stadium on Saturday in the 80th Territorial Cup game, the first for the Wildcats since 1999 to carry any postseason implications.
Arizona (6-5, 4-4) shares fourth place in the Pac-10 with the Ducks (7-4, 4-4) and UCLA (6-5, 4-4), a 27-7 winner over the Wildcats on Oct. 7, and now finds itself tangled in a web of bowl-game possibilities.
Whatever happens with the other Pac-10 teams the rest of the season, a Wildcat win would secure the team a berth in either the Dec. 29 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 21 or the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco on Dec. 24.
Things are even more uncertain with a loss, with a bowl game not even being guaranteed.
Postseason hopes were bandied about in Tucson prior to this season, but even two calendar rows ago, the idea seemed far-fetched.
Now, everything’s different.
“”We’re here to stay,”” said linebacker Spencer Larsen. “”We beat three really good teams. It’s fun.””
