Q&A: Brandon Ashley talks about his future at UA

While Kaleb Tarczewski is in the limelight after committing to the Wildcats on Monday, it’s forward Brandon Ashley that stands to be UA’s top player from its heralded 2012 class.

The Daily Wildcat spoke to the ESPN No. 4 ranked recruit and Findlay Prep star about his trip to Tucson, the 2012 recruiting class and his goals for the future.

On his trip to Tucson

“It was an amazing visit. I loved the campus. Everyone down there seemed real cool, the coaches, the teammates. I had a great time. The whole entire weekend was kind of a surprise to me. I didn’t expect the whole entire school to be like that. Just going to other schools, I’ve never been at a school where everybody was so … just meeting random people who will just come up and talk to you. People are so polite out there. It’s an amazing feeling.”

On why he chose Arizona

“The deciding factor was just the fact that I had a really great relationship with coach Miller. Ever since my freshman year, he’s recruited me and just come to all the AAU games I’ve ever had and over the years we’ve just developed a great relationship.”

On what makes Miller such a good recruiter

“It’s just the fact that he’s one of the younger coaches around, and he’s easy to relate to. He also has a great staff around him. When you’re winning, that also makes your recruiting job a little easier. All kids want to go to a school where they can go in and win and hopefully get to that next level and coach Miller provides that.”

On Kaleb committing to Arizona

“I always had hope that he was going to come and spending a lot of time during the visit I really thought he was going to come. I was real confident that he was going to come. Having him on board with the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, it just makes our class that much better.”

On the 2012 class

“We already have a great team so the fact that we’ve got some of the best players in the country coming in next year, it should be fun. It should definitely be fun. Our main goal right now is to get that national championship. I’m sure that more goals will come up as time goes on.”

On his relationship with his fellow recruits

“I was just talking to Gabe (York) yesterday and I talk to Grant (Jerrett) a lot too. I’ve been talking to Kaleb as well, so all four of us are pretty close. I’ve known Grant since my freshman year of high school and we’ve been pretty close since then so with him going and Gabe going too, that just made my decision that much easier.”
